debilitation, brain injured or amputee. Patients receive 15 hours of therapy
per week in addition to requiring acute care level nursing. They are JCAHO
and CARF accredited (with a stroke specialty designation). Turnover is very
low (about 1% per month). Housing costs are very reasonable there and they
are about 2 hours from the Central California Coast and about 75 minutes from
the gate to Yosemite National Park. There are opportunities for skiing,

with limited experience. Company information and inpatient rehab description:
Inpatient services at Clinic designed for patients in need of intensive
physical rehabilitation. Typical diagnoses of patients in need of acute
rehabilitation include: - Stroke - Brain Injury - Neurological Disorders -
Orthopedic Conditions - Hip Fracture - Spinal Cord Injury - Amputation -
Pulmonary Disease - Multiple Fractures - Pain Management - Pulmonary/Cardiac
Rehabilitation - Arthritis - Debilitation due to extended illness - Other
diagnoses evaluated on a case-by-case basis Rehab Team Patients in the
inpatient setting receive frequent visits from attending physicians who are
specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physical, occupational
and speech therapists play an important role in the design of therapy
programs, and rehabilitation-trained nursing staff help ensure gains made in
therapy are carried out throughout the day. Other members of the rehab team
include respiratory therapists, therapeutic recreation specialists, case
managers and others, all working together to ensure the best possible outcomes
for the patients. A central tenet of rehabilitation medicine is teamwork, and
the patient and family make up the most important part of that team. The Goal
is to return patients to home as quickly as possible, and this requires
communication among all staff involved in patient care. They accomplish this
through daily "team huddles" to ensure patients remain on track and
allow the rehab team to assess daily progress. Family involvement in therapy
sessions is also important whenever possible. This helps ensure that those
assisting in the transition to home have the necessary skills and education
to make that transition successful. A Unique Setting In the inpatient
programs, patients are re-learning skills that were lost through illness and
injury. That may include learning how to walk, how to button a shirt or how
to get in and out of bed. To encourage independence, patients wear their own
clothes and we encourage social interaction, group activities and dining in a
common area. Other features you will discover at San Joaquin include: -
Patient Rooms Patient rooms are double occupancy to encourage social
interaction. Bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs roll directly
into the showers so patients can start learning to take care of themselves
and begin their transition to home. Each patient has a telephone and an
easily adjustable TV. Patients who require respiratory and speech therapy
receive it in their rooms or special areas. - Gym and ADL Training Area The
spacious gym is the setting for many of the activities of therapy. Adjacent
to the gym is our ADL (activities of daily living) training area, which
includes a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom designed to simulate a home
environment. Our therapists use the ADL training area to replicate real-life
situations and teach patients the skills necessary to return home. -
Ambulatory Course The outdoor ambulatory course includes a variety of slopes
and textures - wood, aggregate, cobblestones - to help patients prepare for
the everyday challenges outside the hospital setting. - Transitional Living
Apartment The Transitional Living Apartment is furnished with a regular bed,
sofa, bathroom and kitchen. Patients using the apartment develop the skills
they need to live independently at home. In addition, they enjoy the security
of knowing they can receive assistance quickly by using the nurse call
system. - Day Room Featuring a panoramic view of the surrounding area, The
Day Room is used by therapeutic recreation specialists for leisure activities
that enhance patients' psychosocial well-being. Individual and group
treatments provide learning of new skills that promote.
