BS Electrical Engineering with 3+ years experience working as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer in a Chemical Plant. This role is assigned to the maintenance department, but will provide support as needed to capital projects engineering, safety, and operations. Interacts regularly with maintenance crafts, and must be able to interact effectively with a variety of skill levels and different crafts in a unionized facility. Has a solid understanding of and experience with the complexities of maintaining a substantial specialty chemical plant with many complex electrical systems and devices, as well as working safely in an environment where there are many chemical hazards. Working safely with electrical hazards, and understanding the potential other chemical hazards is a necessity. Coordinate and facilitate the knowledge and practices for preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and equipment repair practices for electrical systems, motors, motor circuits, UPS units, DC/AC systems, substations, and VFD's. . You will provide cost control to support capital projects throughout North America. 

 

Key roles and responsibilities include:  Cost Control for large capital investments of various size and complexity. Electrical Engineer (Refinery)

The Refinery is located north of Salt Lake City, Utah and has a crude oil capacity of 31,000 barrels per day.  It is a high conversion refinery that has advantaged access to regional sweet and black wax crudes as well as pipeline access to Canadian crude oils.  The refined products are marketed primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, and eastern Washington. Approx. 220 employees

 

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years experience in refining and/or petrochemical.  Emphasis on power distribution and controls engineering.  Conducts engineering duties for Electrical Engineering discipline and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts.  This person reports to Supervisor over the Instrument/Electrical Engineers and the Process Control Engineers.  Utah petroleum refinery.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues .•Solves technical problems related to projects and troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s).  Upgrades, designs, configures, maintains and monitors related equipment and performance.  Analyzes related components and systems, processes and methods, and refinery processes and economics.  Develops project scopes, budgets and AFE’s for approval and ensures projects meet budget as well as refinery and OSHA standards.  Ensures the maintenance and integrity of business unit(s) data.  Optimizes business unit(s) and analyzes data to aid operations with decisions.   Researches and stays abreast of assigned discipline subjects, innovations and leading edge developments. Develops systems to document and track the testing and assist in the maintenance of the various systems.

 

 May be required to do: Coordinate, facilitate and document Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and participate in and facilitate incident investigations. Provide training on PHA and Incident Investigation facilitation and general training on Management Of Change (MOC), incident investigations, PHA’s and Pre-start up Safety Reviews (PSSR).  Participate in, facilitate and support Process Safety related audits and Layers Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews and assist in Process Safety action items solution development. Update the Refinery Risk Management Program (RMP) as needed.

 

Design plant equipment and devise processes for manufacturing chemicals and products.  Conduct research to develop new and improved product manufacturing processes.  Design and plan layout for product processes on a commercial scale . Determine most effective arrangement of operations.  Implement processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost efficient manner.  Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems.  Recommend and implement improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters.  Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment. The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible to coordinate the Process and Safety & Firefighting Discipline (Process Discipline Lead) in performing relevant Basic, Feed and Detailing Engineering in the areas of business of storage plants (tank farms) and associated balance of plant (B.O.P.), process skids / modules (Onshore), cryogenic plants, desalinization units.

SCADA Automation Specialist/Senior Automation Specialist
