Serve as primary company resource for I&E technical expertise relating to Instrument / Electrical Power aspects of Projects, Reliability, and Process Safety. Position will be based out of Charlotte, NC and will travel to 25% overnights to support five plants in North America and South America.

 

Requirements: B.S. Electrical Engineering and at least 5+ years in-plant experience in instrument and electrical power reliability and project experience. Know PHA's and safety reviews, MOC, IEEE, ISA standards.

 

Responsibilities: Provide input on safe technical engineering design, costs, plans, and specifications for construction of new facilities and reconditioning or altering of existing systems and equipment. Define project scope, determine best engineering solution, estimates cost, and provide detailed engineering design for plant additions and modifications. Coordinate engineering, design, and drafting work and write specifications for equipment, evaluate vendor's bids and select equipment. Provide engineering consulting and design services to the plants. Review project feasibility and provide innovative use of technology. Monitor construction activities in the field and check for compliance with approved specifications, design, and safe installations. Be able to specify and document typical chemical plant instrumentation including sensors and final control elements. Develop procedures for and support instrument loop commissioning and functional testing and assist in start-ups as required. Assist/lead control system configuration (PLC and DCS) and testing including industrial network and historian development/support. Experience with corrosive and hazardous area electrical classifications. Be able to design, construct, and test 480VAC power distribution and motor controls (Starter / SoftStart / VFD / etc). Familiarity with medium voltage up to 15KV. Reliability: Develop and improve plant instrument/electrical reliability programs. Provide inspections, evaluations and failure analysis on I/E equipment and develop corrective actions. Monitor equipment availability in the assigned areas and develop maintenance procedures to improve reliability, efficiency and to control repair cost. Initiate and review electrical acceptance tests and maintenance tests on chemical plant electrical distribution system components such as medium and low voltage switchgear, feeders, switches, transformers, and MCCs. Familiarity with tests such as potential, double power factor, transformer electrical testing including gas analysis, primary and secondary current injection testing of circuit breakers. Develop and review selected I/E work scopes for turn-arounds and equipment outages. Performs audits of regulatory mandated maintenance work, like calibration and safety instrumented system validations. Provide recommendations and justification for equipment upgrades and input into plant capital plans. Provide expert input on design and reliability of instrumentation/electrical systems to PHA's and other process design safety reviews. Lead the effort for technical review of instrument/electrical aspects of Management of Change for higher level projects. Review site compliance with all applicable codes and regulations by auditing site practice/procedure and making recommendations for improvement. Major contacts include external vendors, engineering design personnel, governmental regulators, insurance representatives, professional society personnel and on-site contract designers. This Client has announced plans to build one of the First Commercial-Scale Ethanol Plants Using a proven-thermochemical process with Municipal Solid Waste as Feedstock.  Their technology is outstanding and quite different from the usual Biofuels junk.  Company is CA-HQ although the  actual plant site in the beautiful Tahoe-Reno, NV area (which has a very reasonable COL).  Good outfit: They have the raw material commitments and plans to build an ADDITIONAL NINE MORE PLANTS LIKE THIS ONE.

 

You will report to Plant Manager and have responsibility for the safe/efficient operations of the plant.  Looking for 15+ years operating experience, including 10 years progressive supervisory experience in petrochemical, chemical, gasification, natural gas or oil processing facilities. BSChE or BSME preferred.

Est. Base salary to about $160K (may do more) plus a target cash bonus of 25% of base, as well as stock options. THEIR PROCESS:
Feedstock Preparation   Municipal solid waste is received from large transport trailers and moved to conveying equipment for transport to gasifiers. > Gasification   Feedstock enters a gasifier, where it is converted to a synthesis gas or syngas. The resulting syngas consists mainly of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. > Heat Recovery Steam Generator   Heat released in the gasification process is recovered and converted to steam for use in the plant. > Alcohol Synthesis Reactors   The syngas enters our proprietary alcohol-synthesis process, where it passes through a catalyst that converts the syngas to ethanol. > Alcohol Separation   Separates and purifies ethanol. > Ethanol   Clean, renewable ethanol fuel which started out as household trash is now ready for sale to local blenders to be added to the gasoline that fuels our cars and trucks. Senior Piping Designer

You will be responsible for providing Piping Design leadership to support project scope development, estimating, detailed design, drafting, checking, and project execution for in-house projects.  Additionally, this position will function as a Piping Lead to coordinate capital and expense projects at outside Engineering Contractor offices. In this capacity, the function ensures that quality, cost compliance, schedule, and constructability aspects of projects are met according to commitments.

 

Requirements:

 

Associates technical degree in piping related studies. Experience with Intergraph PDS Software.  10+ years in piping design and related fields. 3+ years of pipe design leadership (leading pipe designers, estimating projects, tracking progress, board/field checking).  Experience in the use of Microstation CAD Software.  3 years or greater experience in 3D design. Familiar in Piping Codes (ASME, API, and other applicable codes. Experienced and detailed knowledge of pipe design, fabrication, and installation of small to medium capital projects. Experience in executing multiple project modifications, debottlenecking, maintenance activities, and retrofits involving multi-discipline interfaces. UPDATE 1/3/2011 FROM THEIR MANAGER. "…we need experience on multi stage steam turbines as well as horizontally split centrifugal compressors. The applicants we have been getting do not reference any multi stage steam turbine experience. Specifically in maintenance, repair and identifying reliability improvements with the machinery outlined below. We should not place as much emphasis on the gas turbine side of the business. A little is good but should not dominate the experience level."

Qualifications and/or Experience Required:   

BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education, training and experience. Knowledge. Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

• 15 + years in Mechanical Engineering role supporting Petrochemical Manufacturing. Has developed and implemented Maintenance S.O.P.s, Operation S.O.P.s, Equipment Manuals,
• Vibration Analysis/Troubleshooting experience with small and large turbo-machinery.
• Excellent at root cause failure analysis and working with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Vendors and Service Representatives to troubleshoot and solve problems.  Has proven track record of improving rotating equipment reliability.  Proven ownership of field equipment, including overseeing repairs, installation, and successful start-up and monitoring methods.  Experience working in Ethylene or related manufacturing facilities.
• Valued but not required skills and experience:     Strong oratory skills for addressing groups of people.  Experience working other Engineering disciplines (Fixed Equipment, ChemE, etc.) and/or in Supervision of those that performed tasks.  Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Our client is advancing in alternative fuels and actively seeking a Senior Process Engineer. MUST HAVE 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN AN EPC Environment such as Bechtel, Jacobs, Fluor, etc. The Sr Process Engineer will deploy the client's proprietary process at scale. The candidate will be directly involved in plant design, which includes development and review of the process simulation (ASPEN 7.1) for the purpose of generating FEL-2 (conceptual) and FEL-3 (detailed) engineering packages for capital projects.  He or she will further develop and evaluate the process simulation, make process recommendations based on industry recommendations, develop stream reports, heat and material balances, review PFDs and P&IDs, and capital cost estimates. 

 

This is an individual contributor position working in a team-based environment and will report to the SVP of Engineering. Development of engineering packages in support of project development activities. Discussions with process, technology and equipment providers are expected. Development and management of an overall plant simulation. Manage/lead process hazards analyses (PHA) and value improving process (VIP) evaluations. Active participation in periodic assessments of technical progress and techno-economic evaluations of process technology and equipment.

 

Qualifications:

 

Candidates are expected to have a strong understanding of chemical process engineering and the underlying process thermodynamics.

 

 Experience with front-end loading/engineering, capital cost estimation, and project management are required.

10 years industrial experience at an EPC firm or related engineering job assignments.

A minimum of 3 years experience working with Primavera is required and experience with version 6 of this software is highly desirable. It is desirable for this position to have working knowledge of SAP. Four year degree is not a requirement. This position is intended to provide Capital Project and Turnaround (TAR) scheduling development and management. This position will set up and maintain schedules on large/complex jobs, provide oversight and direction to contract schedulers, and provide basic training on scheduling to project team members. The services provided by this position, require an in depth technical knowledge of both the tool software and the scheduling and reporting work processes. Having accurate schedules that are properly managed, helps ensure project and TAR plans are in alignment with business targets. An accurate schedule also enables contractor manpower levels to be optimized up front, which reduces cost. Develop a detailed and optimized project/TAR execution schedule that links dependent activities and shows an accurate and integrated timeline for the scope of work (capital executed during the TAR, operational, and maintenance).
