Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager is a key member of the site leadership team and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective performance of the site's maintenance department. This position oversees a team of approximately 75 exempt and hourly employees responsible for maintenance and reliability of a large modern chemical plant.

 

This position reports directly to the General Manager, supporting the vision of operational excellence. Job Responsibilities: Sets expectations and holds people accountable for excellence in Health, Safety, and Environmental performance. Models the appropriate behavior. Staffs, manages, and develops exempt and hourly employees to build the leaders of the future. Ensures effective programs in safety, cost control and reporting, and manpower training, development, and utilization. In this job, you will take the lead in preparing process design documents for GTL (gas-to-liquids) including PFDs, FEED, Heat and Mass Balances.  P&IDs, budgets. You will use process simulation software (VMGSim, ChemCAD, Aspen, Hysys) to prepare the above documents, and will also develop Operating Plans for client pilot and demonstration facilities as well as commercialized operations. Mentoring junior process engineers will also be an essential part of this job.

Refinery - Sr Staff Process Engineer

This Staff Process Engineer position will report to the Process Engineering Supervisor. Will be responsible for performing engineering duties for all assigned units and serve as a technical specialist applying basic and engineering concepts to continuously improve the refinery's performance in multiple areas. Duties: Develop, maintain, and update unit heat and material balances. This position is responsible for providing Civil and Structural engineering support for several of our Regional Service Centers. You will need to be able to communicate effectively in teams and with leadership to support and review the proper design, purchase and installation of Civil and Structural systems according to regulatory and company standards. Areas of responsibility include executing small and medium complexity projects for the Civil / Structural discipline providing support in the development of basic and detailed design of new plants and their infrastructure. You will also be responsible for providing support to civil, structural and engineering in expansions and debottlenecking of existing plants and infrastructure facilities for conception, design, and execution phases of projects, in coordination with Project Managers and other Design Disciplines. This includes project scope development, conceptual planning, estimating, detailed design, project execution, and coordination of capital and expense projects. Additionally, this position provides support for the interpretation of building codes, evaluations of existing facilities and provides expertise, knowledge, and interpretations in ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and other applicable Codes and Standards. This Staff Process Engineer position will report to the Process Engineering Supervisor.  Will be responsible for performing engineering duties for all assigned units and serve as a technical specialist applying basic and engineering concepts to continuously improve the refinery's performance in multiple areas. Duties: Develop, maintain, and update unit heat and material balances. Monitor assigned units (especially the FCC and Hydrotreater) on a routine basis and develop unit key performance indicators Work closely with operations to address operational issues. Provide tracking and oversight to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget. Requirements: A minimum of ten years of progressive chemical engineering work experience in a petroleum refinery or petrochemical plant is required. Utilizing the Construction Project Delivery System, lead the project team through the construction project phases. Manage the development of the contracting strategies, commercial terms for the project and finalizing the project contract. Oversee the change management process and approval of all trends and change orders.  Review and provide input into the project turnover strategy (and commissioning where applicable).

 

Work with the Client to finalize agreement on the turnover plan (and commissioning where applicable), which will identify the roles responsibilities. Review all performance indicators on a shift basis, and as part of the monthly construction and business operation reviews. Provide input and take actions where required to hit targets. Align the project team to the contractual obligations and participate in contract review meetings. Conduct lessons learned sessions at key milestones identified within the construction execution plan in order to drive continuous improvement of the project and processes.  Review all performance indicators each shift and provide input/take action where required to ensure targets are met.

Manage and apply risk management to any project risks to ensure risk is minimized. Manage the manpower loading requirements by reviewing the bi-weekly manpower forecast and prioritizing labour loading based on project requirements and business priorities. Work with the Project team and client to finalize agreement on the system turnover plan, which will identify the roles and responsibilities and deliverables of client team. Work with the Functional Team Leads to align their functional plans and deliverables based on the project schedule. Develop the project documentation plan and oversee the management of the project documentation. Develop and implement the Project Communication plan.  Forecast project revenues and margins. Conduct monthly analysis to identify opportunities to meet project targets. Manage project cash flows by analyzing revenue in excess and accounts receivables.  Drive actions within the project to achieve project targets. Oversee preparation and delivery of the Financial Project Closeout Report.

 

Communication:  Develop the construction execution plan and manage to the plan through regular meetings with project team.  Hold both parties accountable for delivery of materials and engineering packages as defined within the project execution plan. Establish, communicate and execute project priorities as they apply to the Divisional Strategy and Client Contract 


Document Administration: Approve and submit any invoice/timesheet expenses which have business unit expenditures to the appropriate projects. Complete and submit monthly documents to the appropriate departments. (e.g. timesheets, expense reports, etc.).
