Engineering Manager – Director

This Engineering Manager will have a Director title in a small company and will be responsible for growing the engineering team to support business in the USA. Initially he/she will also work directly on engineering projects. The US Engineering Director will be a resource for all projects led by the US office.  S/he will be involved from the contract signing through the installation / commissioning stage for multiple projects.  The majority of these projects will be related to power plant emissions reductions, but there will also be opportunities to get involved with pilot / demonstration type projects.  The US Engineering Director will also work closely with the China Engineering Director to standardize processes and procedures, ensure consistent product quality, and continually improve the organization.  30% travel expected, domestic and international.

·        Initially, as the team is being formed, work as a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer.

·        Manage a growing team of senior and mid-level engineers to execute on project design and delivery, primarily for US selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems but also for global coal-to-chemicals technology development.  Engineers are based in Charlotte, NC, and Orange County, CA.

·        Work with China Engineering Director to develop processes and procedures for effective and efficient completion of US and global projects.  Ensure drafting quality by reviewing drawings and training technical leads to give useful feedback to China team.  Will require at least an annual visit to the Beijing office.

·        Work with US office to develop processes and procedures for effective project execution, including but not limited to technical specifications and procurement processes, project management processes, and customer interaction processes.

·        Represent the company at all levels, especially at customer technical meetings.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

·        Degree in mechanical engineering  or process engineering (masters or professional accreditation preferred) from a US or European institution.  Strong knowledge and experience of thermal, mechanical, and process engineering.

·        Familiarity with ASME standards and codes, especially those related to instrumentation, piping (ASME B31.3), and materials selection

·        Professional Engineering licensure is not a prerequisite but is highly desirable - P.E.

·        10+ years technical experience working with global customers, in roles of increasing responsibility.

Reporting to the VP, Operations & Engineering, the Project Development Engineer manages the engineering, EPC Contracting, and preliminary EPC activities during the project development phase.  The Project Development Engineer supports the development team by providing all relevant technical and commercial input required to develop projects, submit bids, analyze prospective acquisitions, and achieve financial close on assigned projects.

§  Negotiates technical issues, including scope of supply and equipment performance, with clients and the EPC contractor

§  Supports corporate initiatives related to the Operations and Engineering function including issues related to clients, contractors, vendors, technology, procedures, and standards.

§  Supports the environmental impact assessment and the public consultation processes on assigned projects.

§  Supports the Lender’s due dilagence process, managing and supporting the efforts of the Lenders Engineers and providing technical input to Lenders in support of Financial Close

As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will report to the US Director of Engineering and will be involved with the full project assisting with the initial proposal through the installation / commissioning stage for multiple projects. The majority of these projects will be related to power plant emissions reductions, but there will also be opportunities to get involved with pilot / demonstration type projects for ongoing innovative R&D efforts. You will also work closely with the Engineering Director and Procurement Manger to standardize processes and procedures, ensure consistent product quality, and continually improve the organization. 15% travel expected, domestic only. (There are overseas offices that handle offering in other continents). In this growing organization, there may be direct reports added in the future.

The activities associated with the position are very diverse as would be expected in a small company. The emphasis and expertise revolves around mechanical engineering skills (i.e. B31.1 piping design and stress analysis) but you will also participate in process design (front-end design): Lead and review process and mechanical engineering including: Process flow diagram (PFDs) and process & instrument diagram (P&IDs) development. Pipe sizing, stress, and support calculations. Skid mechanical layout design and checking. Mechanical design of tanks, pressure vessels, and other equipment according to ASME standards. Develop specifications for equipment including hot gas fans, chemical vaporizers, piping, expansion joints, dampers, and valves. Support ongoing Sales and Execution efforts by providing technical analysis of proposal-level designs and by troubleshooting field / installation issues. Develop standards for improving product quality and lowering total cost.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Minimum B.S. Mechanical Engineer or Chemical Engineer (masters or professional accreditation preferred) from a US or European institution. Strong knowledge and experience of thermal, mechanical, and process engineering. Turbine Field Technician

The Turbine Field Service Specialist position will have responsibility for the development of my client's single stage and multistage steam turbines provide technological leadership and direction for internal and external repairs and deliver improved steam turbine products to meet client needs and market demand.

The position directly contributes and supports the repair operations of the Texas Field Operations through the inspection and repair of new and old parts to meet required specifications. The Field Service Turbine Specialist will primarily guide client crews on clients' sites but may also need to work in the service center to complete jobs within the clients' time frame. The role involves travel up to 50% throughout Texas and surrounding oil states. This is a very hands on role with direct maintenance and repair responsibilities.

Required:   Five to seven years of related turbine industry experience.  An Inter-provincial Red Seal Journeyman Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic, Degreed Mechanical Engineer or College Diploma. Supervisory experience.  Experience with the disassembly, inspection, repair and re assembly of Single and Multi Stage steam turbines. Must have a high attention to detail, able to read and follow blue prints and able to read and use measuring instruments accurately.  Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.  A minimum of three years experience in a petrochemical environment.  The ability to diagnose electrical/mechanical problems quickly on running or operating machinery.  Ability to assist with equipment inspections in Service Centers, depending on the workload.  Ensure that customer installs, commissions, operates and maintains supplied equipment in accordance with OEM specifications.
