Our client is a Multi - Million Glassware Manufacturer is one of the world's leading designers and sellers of tabletop and food preparation products for the consumer and food service markets. It is also the largest supplier of dinnerware to the food service industry in North America.


The Company operates in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Europe and Asia. We are currently filling the position of a Safety Manager in our Columbus area plant.

The Safety Manager will report to the Vice President of Human Resources and will be responsible for the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all environmental health and safety programs. This position will work closely with the Human Resources and Operations teams at the facilities and may take direction from those managers on specific items to accomplish the required tasks. This role may require periodic travel to other areas and would be expected to share insight and guidance as needed with them as well.

Specific Responsibilities:

.
Collect and maintain accident statistics (including the OSHA 300 Log) and other appropriate accident prevention and environmental protection activity data. Analyze and interpret these statistics and prevention data and develop and recommend to management plans, procedures, activities, practices and rules to achieve continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

. Periodically advise facility management of H&S conditions, accident statistics or trends, and H&S regulatory requirements. Provide safety data rates to management on a weekly basis as well as compile / give presentations on safety data to senior leaders internal and external to
the company.

. Participate in accident investigations and assist management in determining causal factors and appropriate corrective actions and follow-up to ensure that all corrective actions are taken and maintained.

. Assist Workers Compensation case management in facilitating the return to work of injured employees, working closely with the employee relations representative.

. Develop a strong working relationship with the Workers Compensation lead in Human Resources to ensure claims are managed from inception to closure.

. Participate in quarterly claims review meetings to discussopen claims and mitigation strategies.

. Install, coordinate the activities of, and participate in Safety Committees, Safety Inspections, audits, Safety Improvement Teams.

. Coordinate the communication of significant H&S information received from Corporate or other appropriate sources to all appropriate management and non-management employees.

. Monitor state and federal H&S regulations and advise management of programs, procedures or activities that must be implemented in order to assure compliance with the law.

. Oversee security activities and management for the Columbus Plant, Distribution Center and Corporate locations.

. Collaborate with functionally allied staff groups such as Purchasing, Corporate Human Resources, Corporate/Facility Engineering, and Corporate Legal to effectively coordinate efforts to maintain and improve H&S conditions within the facility.


This includes participation in the planning and implementation of all engineering and construction projects which have H&S implications.

. Coordinate, assist or conduct facility-wide efforts in H&S training for all employees (i.e., supervisory and non-supervisory).

. Develop and disseminate, on a monthly basis, a Supervisor's Safety Meeting Packet that will assist supervisors throughout the locations in leading effective safety meetings.


Maintain and update appropriate management personnel on the performance of the process, as well as, any appropriate trends.

Education and Experience Requirements:

An accredited B.S. degree in Safety with 8+ years of heavy manufacturing experience is required.

Job Duties

. Lead contact on Customer Audits and Requests for Proposals/Information
. Calibrate test equipment
. Schedule and execute sample submittals to external laboratory vendor for testing
. Receive and document testing results from external laboratory vendor
. Provide independent oversight of processes, verifying compliance to company standards and policies, and effectively communicating when there are deviations from standards or processes
. Assist in training employees on food safety, company processes and FDA Good Manufacturing

Practices

. Maintain accurate and organized records of SA tech activities
. Maintain organized inventory of retained products
. Monitor HACCP program
. Participate in preparation for 3rd party safety audits

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. A passion for chemical process safety. 5 years' experience in the chemical process engineering and application of process safety principles in a manufacturing environment. Familiar with unit operations and safety systems in petrochemical facilities such as safety instrumented systems, process shutdown, fire and gas detection, relief/flare systems, firewater protection, and emergency response.  Proficient with industry standards and codes related to process safety and design. Strong interpersonal communication (verbal & written) skills.
Proficient use of business software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the site's Process Safety Management program. Lead, manage and facilitate the Management of Change (MOC) program for the facility.
