KEY POINTS: Strategic view of the sourcing process. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Manages the purchase of complex assemblies and components such as directional valves, manifolds and other mechanical components for NAFTA while supporting global hydraulic requirements as needed. Responsible for tactical and strategic activities involved with the purchase of critical production parts within the Hydraulic Cluster. Support product launch initiatives while developing and implementing cost reduction and sourcing strategies, leading to improved quality, technology and timely delivery performance.
DIMENSIONS: Current spend is approximately $75M across responsible clusters in NA. This can fluctuate due to make vs. buy decisions, new sourcing, resourcing, and volume driven activities associated with this desk. Desk is comprised of multiple commodity codes covering several suppliers to support new launch, current production, and resource opportunities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead supplier evaluation, selection, and sourcing for valves, brakes, accumulators, and other mechanical components for the company's manufacturing operations in North America. Negotiates piece price, R&D, and tooling for total cost containment during development and after supplier selection. Manages on-time tooling kick-offs and ISIR (Initial Sample Inspection Report) approvals. Researches industry trends, performs commodity market analysis, and presents strategic recommendations.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: Applicant will regularly communicate with engineering, product development, various plant personnel, and supply base through face to face meetings, emails, conference calls, etc and present business case to management for approval as needed. All communication will require the ability to problem solve with collaborative approaches, negotiate internally and externally within the company for results needed, deal with stressful situations, and strive for long-lasting relationships.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree required. Engineering degree preferred (i.e., BSME, BSMET, BSIE, BS-AgE, or BS-MfgE). Will also consider Supply Chain Management or Operations Management degree/s. Minimum of about 8 years of experience within engineering, purchasing, and/or supply chain. Experience in analyzing, selecting, approving and auditing suppliers for different product platforms within a multi-plant heavy equipment manufacturing environment based upon supplier capability relative to testing, designing, supporting, quality and manufacturing. Experience developing and implementing commodity strategies. Strong negotiating background with knowledge of corporate purchasing practices and strategies that bring about closure of long-term agreements reflecting positive, future financial results for the company. Proven experience in mitigating supplier delivery, cost, and relationship issues with positive outcome for the company.
PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE: MBA/Masters Degree preferred. Lean Sigma experience (green or black belt) preferred and/or CPM/CPSM/CPIM/CSCP certification/s. Strong knowledge of Corporate purchasing practices and negotiation strategies. Product cost management a plus. Experience with cost controls & reduction (VA/VE). Transportation expertise with leading a large team of drivers and fleet of vehicles is essential. This leadership role includes responsibility for multiple facilities that provide modern, efficient blending and packaging services and warehouse distribution operations. Essential Job Functions include: Oversee safe, efficient, legal and economical operation of all warehouse, packaging, and transportation activities for the distribution of quality products. Dispatch, route and manage all fleet vehicles, ensuring proper operations and maintenance at all times. Plan, organize and manage a team of drivers to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with company and customer requirements. Oversee all hiring, development, performance reviews and discipline of direct reports. Coordinate delivery schedules and modify schedules as required to meet customer needs. Facilitate high volume bulk unloading, repackaging, blending, quality control, labeling, and shipping logistics functions. Qualifications include: Bachelors or Associates Degree in Management, Transportation, Logistics, or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of experience with Transportation Management; dispatching experience is a plus. Experience with warehouse operations and shipping/receiving logistics, ideally in a chemical manufacturing, batch processing, or blending plant environment. 3-5+ years of Managerial or Supervisory experience with demonstrated capabilities of leading, motivating, mentoring, and developing direct reports. Experience managing warehouse operations, trucking/transportation fleet, shipping/receiving logistics. Highly organized, detail oriented with the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously. Skilled at multi-tasking, managing multiple priorities, and flexible to frequently changing customer demands.
